Paranormal Activity The only thing scary about it is the ticket price!2009.10.17. // Uncategorized

Like you,  I was one of the thousands that was hooked on the Paranormal Activity hype floating around the internet.  I heard the talk about this movie and then the trailor and I thought wow, i have to see this move, it has been proclaimed the scariest movie ever and who wouldn’t want to see that.   I demanded it along with many others and after getting 1 million demands it finally was released nationwide.  Imagine my joy when i found out it made it finally to our area, so on Friday not wanting to be raped at the concession stand  my husband Frank and I loaded up on our movie candy from the dollar store or pound store as i found out it is called in the UK and headed off to the movies.  When we got there we got our tickets(scary price) grabbed some popcorn and a drink and settled in to watch the scariest movie ever!!!

After some pretty good looking trailers the movie begins and if you get dizzy easily stop watching this movie now!! Reminded me of Cloverfield or Quarintine.  The movie started out slow and did calm down until the middle from all the jerky camera shots.  The movie is basically about a young couple who believe that their home is haunted so they set up a camera in their bedroom for several nights to capture any paranormal activity(hence the title of the movie) .  During the first few nights we hear the usual knocking and tapping and footsteps and then as each night progresses  the activity becomes more and more but not scarier and scarier.  I found myself nodding off in some parts and the characters just become annoying after awhile and I found myself hoping that something WOULD get them!!! or get me outta of this movie theater, so you say why didn’t you just leave ? well i hate wasting money and I kept hoping that it would get better and maybe something scary would happen but sadly that never happened!  I won’t give away the ending or anymore details in case you have not seen the movie yet but I say if you must and don’t want to take my word for it go and see the movie and judge for yourself, I think you will agree with me especially if you are a horror hound like myself.  :)

Oh and i think the Blair Witch project is still the best hyped over the internet independent movie ever!!! :)

My new favorite show: Being Human!2009.08.24. // Uncategorized

Oh gosh, it has been such a long time since I lasted posted a blog! I have been busy and not really had time to think of anything to write about but one thing keeps coming up in my mind and in different conversations that I have been having and that is my new favorite show on TV right now, Being Human! Being Human is on the BBCAmerica channel. It is just amazing and I think the best show on TV in its genre.

This show is about a ghost, a vampire and a werewolf living together and trying to be normal and human!  It is a drama, a comedy and a little bit of everything thrown in.  The ghost, Annie is still haunting the house that she and her fiancée lived in.  Now she shares that house with George, the werewolf and Mitchell, the  100 year old vampire. They are the only ones that can see her.

Annie’s fiancé, Owen, is now dating Janey and rents the house to George and Mitchell.  Annie thinks she is still earthbound for a reason and that reason is to take care of Owen but in a later episode we see that she is sadly mistaken.  George and Mitchell work in the hospital as orderlies.  They all three need each other as we later see in other episodes and all become really good friends.

George is in love with a nurse at the hospital and tries to have a normal relationship with her and does not let her know his secret but we find that she has a secret of her own.

Mitchell, the vampire, has an ex girlfriend that he turned and she is always showing up and wanting him to join her and the other “dark” vampires.  Mitchell is a good vampire and does not kill but later we find out that he does turn to the “dark” group of vampires but is saved by his friends, George and Annie and we also see a surprising move by his ex girlfriend.

There are only 6 episodes of this series but luckily it has been picked up for a second season. :) Right now we are in the 5th episode with the season finale being aired next Saturday.

I am absolutely in love with this show and think it is the best on right now and highly recommend it to everyone and have been doing that. :) So, if you love a paranormal drama with a bit of comedy thrown in then go check it out!

My Filing System: Bag’em, Stack’em or Tote’em2009.07.28. // Uncategorized

In one of my earlier posts I think I stated that I think some of my many quirks can be blamed on being inherited and this is one of them.

When my daddy passed away a couple of years ago I had the unfortunate duty of cleaning out the house and clearing out his things.  As i was going through his things I noticed a very familiar pattern, stacks!  My father had stacks and stacks of papers around, mainly mail and newspapers.  I mention this because I too have many stacks around my house and wondered if that was normal or if I have some kind of compulsion. :)   I guess now I know that it is normal, at least for me because my daddy had done it and it was definitely inherited.

Since I have told you this little bit about me I guess I should tell you a little bit about what I call my filing system! I do have a system and it has three parts and once again just another way for my husband to make fun of me!  haha :)

When someone is looking for something around the house of course their natural reaction is to ask me where it is, like I am suppose to have a mental inventory of where everything is. It is a running joke around here that if you are looking for something it more than likely will be found in one of three places, a bag, a stack, or a tote in our storage.  When mail or papers or anything is brought into the house I automatically file them in my head.

First I decide if it is needed, if not than it gets thrown away if needed it usually ends up in one of my many stacks around the house, which I might say I am the only one that knows what is in them and what each one holds. :)   The very last stage of filing is the dreaded tote.  If it has been laying around long enough I will tote it up and send it on its merry way to the storage.  Now I can’t tell you how many times Frank has been looking for something and has to go out and buy another one only for it to be found a while later in a tote. :) It is like Christmas morning all over again! LOL I just can’t seem to throw anything away and I think that is not a bad thing, you never know when you might need it again!  I think they call that a pack rat!  Guess my dad and I were two pack rats living together!  :)

A Dedication To My Father2009.07.17. // Uncategorized

Two years ago today the greatest most influential man in my life passed away, my daddy!  Someone once said “any man can be a father but it takes a real man to be a daddy” not sure who said that but it is so true.  My daddy influenced my life so much and made me the woman I am today and for that I am forever grateful! :)

I guess you could say that i have always been a daddy’s girl. I was what you called an “unexpected surprise” or a “late in life” baby!  My dad was 45 and my mom 38 when I was born and they thought they were through with having kids but boy were they wrong! ha-ha  My brother and sister are quite older than me so i pretty much grew up like an only child although I am the baby in the family!  If you know anything about birth order than you know that the baby in the family is just that, treated like a baby.  I usually got my own way and could get away with anything. I never remember my dad raising his voice to me or getting upset.  The only discipline I remember is when my dad was trying to teach me right from wrong and the proper way to treat people.  My dad was very much a people person and I guess that is where I get it from, he never met a stranger and could talk for hours.  I think I inherited his gift for gab. lol He taught me that all people want to be treated with respect and honor and want to feel like they are important and needed!  “You should never act like you are better than anyone else because you aren’t” he would say,  we are all the same no matter what we have because in the end it doesn’t really matter anyway. :)

My dad was a hardworking man who always took care of his family and made sure we had what we needed.  He never wanted for anything himself until he made sure we had what we wanted first. My dad came from a long line of hardworking men and women straight from Germany!  My grandfather (his father) had a thick accent and would sometimes go off cursing in German and you never knew what he was saying. lol

I have many fond memories of my daddy, from getting up every Saturday morning with me to watch cartoons,  to taking walks in the park and even playing dolls  with me. :)   He even did try to teach me to ride a bike but i am still too uncoordinated for that! ha-ha Yes I can’t ride a bike.

I am forever grateful to my daddy for being there for me and nurturing me as I grew into a woman and had a family of my own.  I think it is so important for a girl to have a strong, influential male to look up too in her life!  My daddy taught me to be a strong willed, independently thinking woman with my own thoughts and feelings.  He taught me to be a lady and have class and men will always respect you. :)   I think that is why I have so many good male friends!  He taught me to joke around and have a good time and enjoy your life and enjoy making other people happy and if you do all that your life will be very rewarding!

I miss my daddy so much every day but each day gets a little easier knowing that I have inside me his wisdom and guidance every day.

Love you daddy

A Bit About Me and a Cereal Fetish2009.07.14. // Uncategorized

I guess I should tell you a little bit about myself since my blog is the one you are reading and it would help to know a little bit about me.

Be warned though, I write how I talk which can be scatterbrained at times and sometimes I have been know to ramble.

I’m Laura and I am a co-host of a somewhat long running Paranormal Podcast called Spooktalkular!  I live in the Bluegrass state of Kentucky and no I have never been to the Kentucky Derby and no I do not own a horse! I enjoy reading, anything paranormal, horror movies, having a good time as long as nobody gets hurt, thunderstorms and some writing and lots of talking. I am also a true believer in the theory of six degrees of separation and believe that we are all connected throughout the Universe. I graduated from college with a degree in Sociology/Anthropology and a minor in Women’s studies.  I am a wife, mother and proud pet owner of a very old, pre-diabetic  “Marlon Brando” of cats named Salem. I also enjoy camping, ghost hunting, movies, spending time with my kids and their friends, music and just being in the moment! I have also been known to enjoy Yoga and walking but that is about the extent of my exercise! Now for the standards, my favorite colors are green and pink, favorite food, chocolate of course and favorite movie Halloween, ok not a normal sappy girl.   Oh yeah, we are all gingers living under one roof. If you know anything about redheads (gingers) you know we are not the easiest people to get along with and we are stubborn and have bad tempers, most of which is true. :) Although,  I am more of a strawberry blonde, so I guess that is only half true for me.  I come from a long line of strong, outlive all husbands kind of women and am very proud of that and am happy my daughter is a strong independent woman although I think a lot of that is from having such a strong male influence in her life, her father.

If you are wondering about the cereal fetish let me first tell you that my husband is a born comedian and I supply a lot of the material for him. I have many quirks and he just loves pointing them out to me some of which I have come to find out are genetic but more about that later.

As my hubby was looking for a snack the other night he pointed out to me that the top of our refrigerator could double for an aisle at the local grocery store.  What I mean by that is I have every cereal that the store provides lined up on the top of my fridge.  What can I say, I love cereal!  Cereal is a versatile food, it can be eaten morning, noon or night and especially at night for a midnight snack.  I think at one time I had 15 boxes of cereal! Now, I do have the old stand by, the sugar laden cereal that your mom warned you would rot your teeth out and the good for you but tastes like eating a forest kind and I do get excited when I see a new cereal on the market and I have to buy it.  Not sure when this fetish all started but I am sure it had something to do with my mother. My mother was a horrible cook you see so we always ended up fending for ourselves and I think cereal was just easy to grab, eat and go.  Am I blaming my mother for my cereal fetish? No, I would not  do something like that but I wish she had taken some cooking lessons!  I will have to say I did not take after her and that I am an excellent cook!

So, there you go, a little bit about me and a little bit about one of my quirks.  There is a lot more of them and a lot more to talk about in my crazy life!

So, forgive me for this being a short blog but it is my first one and will improve in time. :)

Upcoming topics include my filing system, a dedication to my father and more odd things! :)
